Top Xbox 360 games - The best Xbox 360 games recently released

The economy might be in the tubes, but Xbox 360 gaming is really kicking butt, especially if you like music games. Not only is Guitar Hero: Metallica a great add-on, but Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits will be out this summer and The Beatles: Rock Band out sometime this year.

Here are some of the top Xbox 360 games released in the last quarter of 2008 and in early 2009.
Top Xbox 360 Games

Halo Wars

* Release Date: 3/3/09
* Metacritic Score: 82

The popular first-person shooter turns into a real-time strategy game thanks to Ensemble Studios, the people behind the classic Age of Empires series. Halo Wars lets you take charge of the UNSC in their fight against the Covenant. A prequel to the FPS series, Halo Wars lets you see the Halo universe from a brand new perspective. Halo Wars is one of the top Xbox 360 games exclusive to the console.

Street Fighter

* Release Date: 2/17/09
* Metacritic Score: 93

The newest in a long line of Street Fighter games, Street Fighter IV follows the basic principals of 2D fighting games while inserting nice 3D visuals. The game also introduces new attacks called Focus Attacks in addition to Ultra Combos. Street Fighter IV brings the fighting game to the next gen console.

Guitar Hero: Metallica

* Release Date: 3/29/09
* Metacritic Score: 87

The first Guitar Hero: World Tour spin off lets you take your guitar, drums and vocals to Metallica's stage. In addition to playing with James, Lars, Kirk and Robert, you can also experience guest acts like Queen, Alice in Chains and the Foo Fighters. This is a must-buy for Metallica fans or those who've already conquered Guitar Hero World Tour.

Skate 2

* Release Date: 1/21/09
* Metacritic Score: 84

Taking place 5 years after the original Skate, the sequel comes after a disaster leaves San Vanelona in ruins. The Mongocorp rebuilt the city, but is trying to put a damper on the skate population. A more realistic depiction of skateboarding than the Tony Hawk series, ever skate fan should check this one out.

Resident Evil 5

* Release Date: 3/13/09
* Metacritic Score: 85

The next installment of the venerable survival horror series puts the player in control of Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar, an African BSAA agent. It takes place ten years after the original Resident Evil game. You can also be joined online by a friend in story mode, who can jump in and out of a session while you are playing.

Call Of Duty: World At War

* Release Date: 11/10/08
* Metacritic Score: 84

Call of Duty: World at War suffered in some reviews because many felt it was just too similar to Modern Warfare. Of course, if you never owned Modern Warfare or are just looking for breath of fresh air on top of Modern Warfare gameplay, this is a good thing. Despite not scoring as high in reviews, World at War was one of the top Xbox 360 games this year and was a top game across all platforms.

Left 4 Dead

* Release Date: 11/18/08
* Metacritic Score: 90

Anyone who has ever wanted to find out if they could live through a zombie film got a real treat when Left 4 Dead became the newest entry into the survival horror genre. Designed like a cross between a reality television show and a zombie movie and with a big focus on the multiplayer aspect, Left 4 Dead is definitely one of the top Xbox 360 games from 2008.
How to install Xbox 360 games to the hard drive while in the dashboard: It's very simple to load the game onto the hard drive when you are in the new dashboard. Just follow these quick steps: 1. Load the disk into your Xbox 360 console and go to your Xbox 360 console

One of the cooler Xbox Live New Experience Features is the ability to install an entire game to the hard drive. This can be great for games that do a lot of disc loading as it can really cut down on those load times and improve performance.

I've already tested this feature out with EA's NFL Head Coach 09 - a game that was riddle with performance issues -- and it really worked wonders on the game. The frequent pauses as the game loaded the depth chart, injury status or emotional systems went away, and the game plays a lot smoother.

So, if you have a game that you like to play, but it's frequently slowed down because of disc loading, it might be worth installing the game onto the Xbox 360's hard drive. You will still need to have the game disc in the Xbox 360 to play the game (they don't want to make it too easy to pirate games!), but you will see improved performance in some games.
How to install Xbox 360 games to the hard drive while in the dashboard:

It's very simple to load the game onto the hard drive when you are in the new dashboard. Just follow these quick steps:

1. Load the disk into your Xbox 360 console and go to your Xbox 360 console
2. Scroll down to My Xbox
3. Scroll across to Game Library and hit the A button
4. This should put you on the Recent Games window and your game should be highlighted, so you should just need to hit the A button. Otherwise, scroll to the Recent Games window and choose the game.
5. On the game screen, choose Install to Hard Drive. This process should take a few minutes, but once it is complete, you'll be able to enjoy improved performance.

You'll also note that the game screen contains all kinds of great information about the game such as the achievements unlocked and featured downloads available for the game.
How to install Xbox 360 games to the hard drive while in the game:

1. While in the game, hit the Xbox button to bring up the mini-dashboard
2. Scroll across to the Games tab
3. Choose Game Library and hit the A button
4. Confirm that you want to bring up the Xbox 360 Dashboard
5. This should put you on the Recent Games window and your game should be highlighted, so you should just need to hit the A button.
6. On the game screen, choose Install to Hard Drive. This process should take a few minutes.

Checking hard drive space and clearing up room

Installing games onto your Xbox 360's hard drive will take up a lot of space. For example, it took 6 GB to install EA Head Coach 09 onto the hard drive -- that's quite a bite out of the available space.

So, you might want to make sure you have enough available space and clear up a little room if you are running low. Doing this is pretty simple:

1. In the dashboard, scroll over to My Xbox
2. Scroll across to System Settings (it should be the last choice)
3. Choose Memory
4. This will show your hard drive and your free space. Choose the hard drive to get more information.

The hard drive is broken down by categories to show where you are using the most space.

Choose a category to see the individual items. You can delete items by clicking on their name and choosing delete from the menu. Deleting demos is a good way to free up some available space.
